Nabothian Cyst or something more sinister? Borderline smear

Hi ladies,

Benn lurking here a while now but this is my first post. Just looking for some reassurance!

I had my first abnormal smear result last month, borderline result. I had a colposcopy last Wednesday and although the specialist said she could see a tiny bit of HPV there didn’t seem to be any clear margins, so she took a biopsy ‘just to be safe’

What’s worrying me is she also said she could see a small Nabothian cyst, which appeared to bleed a little after she poked it. She didn’t seem worried about it at all and went to great lengths to assure me it was nothing sinister, but obviously now all I can think is that it was actually cancer and she could see how worried I was so didn’t want to cause unnecessary upset!

I’ve had really bad sciatic pain on one side for just under a year now, as well as extremely heavy periods and spotting 3/5 days before my period and also if I go for a poo – which despite being never more than a light spot, I read this was a symptom for CC. All of this until now I had just put down to after-effects of child birth. My daughter is 2 years old.

Dr. Google is not helping at all – I’ve virtually self-diagnosed at stage 4 due to all the aches and joint pain (I keep thinking its in my bones) and I don’t know what to do.

Can anyone say they’ve been through similar, and it did turn out to be a Nabothian cyst? The colposcopist said it was a 1 in 2000 chance I would have CC, but it still feels so likely.

Hi

I can't offer advice as I haven't been through the exact situation but what I did want to say is your mind will run away whilst waiting for result . You will remember every twinge you have had and convince yourself you have more symptoms ! I had a really bad sciatica flare up a few months before my abnormal smear and once I had the smear result I was utterly convinced it was a cancer symptom ! I bled the day I got my results ( after worrying about the result for ages as always ) and was convinced that by massive coincidence I had started symptoms on the day of the result !

so it's normal to all of a sudden feel like you have symptoms. Also , I asked the doctor outright if she thought it was cancer and she actually said to me that if she had suspicions and I asked her , she is not allowed to lie and say she doesn't have suspicions , as I was saying to her " but would you tell me if you suspected it?" ( I was awful ! ) she said to me that she did not think it was from what she had seen and then explained the statistics etc but I would feel assured if she made a point of saying it's not sinister - she wouldn't hide her suspicions from you , although you may be scared and feel very vulnerable you are still a grown adult with every right to transparency regarding your care !

I hope you get your results soon and can relax xx

It's like you've read my mind! I could have written this myself. I've convinced myself it's just a coincidence that all my symptoms have started the same time I have my colposcopy - that I'm finally showing symptoms of advanced CC. Arent bodies crazy?

It is slightly comforting to hear they're not allowed to lie....I was exactly the same, asking over and over again that she was sure. She even swung round her computer screen and googled 'nabothian cyst' so I could see one and realise that while none of the pictures looked exactly like what I had (mine was smaller)....she was almost positive that that's what it was.

Thank you so much for your reply :)
