Confused about multiple biopsy results

Hello
In December I had my cervical screening at my GP just HPV positive/high risk they said, first week of January I had an invite for colposcopy & 2 biopsies taken. They sent me a letter weeks later saying they needed to repeat the biopsy and I had 4 more taken end of March due to my work schedule. I spoke to them a week ago and they said it was inconclusive so they’re discussing it at an MDT meeting next Thursday and will be called Friday. I am just confused as to why all my biopsies are inconclusive and I haven’t been told why, are MDT meetings just something they do for most cases? I don’t know anyone personally else who’s been through this so I can’t get any advice. Should I be worrying?

Thank you

Hi @TT2

My case went to MDT meeting last year but mine was due to my biopsies not matching my smear, its not necassarily a cause for concern they usually hold these meetings in these cases so they can discuss the case with a panel of different doctors that also specialise in the field

Whats most likely being discussed in your case is why/how the samples are inconclusive and see if a different set of eyes can read them, if they cant as the colposcopist is in the meeting they can state what they saw and they will decide what the next course of action would be, if they think true abnormalities are present depending what grade they believe it is they could either advise another smear in 6-12 months or they may move ahead with a treatment and hit two birds with one stone by treating and grading it as sometimes a LLETZ can be used as more of a diagnostic procedure when they arnt sure xx

Thank you
He did want to do letz at my last appointment but didn’t because of my age and I don’t have children so he took the 4 biopsies instead, hopefully that was just a precautionary thought from him🤞I just stress hard when there’s hardly any information being given to me I’ve never had uncertainty like this from a health issue x

Also in both of my colposcopy appointments I have been told that the area they want to test is very hard for them to reach even with the cervix dilated, possibly that’s why these biopsies aren’t enough for them? X

If they suspected anything more it is likely they would tell you, they decided to tell me they were looking for an invasion right as they were about to do a LLETZ lol bevause of that i ended up needing it under GA as i couldnt keep still lol

That could very well be the reason they cant get a conclusive sample, you could have a type 3 transformation zone (the place on the cervix samples are taken from as its where cell changes may start forming) that can be hard to reach, they may not be able to get enough TZ cells to accurately say if abnormalities are oresent and what grade xx

Update incase anyone else reads with similar situation to me.

Was called back a week ago to discuss mdt meeting, they have decided they’re just going to do LLETZ of my transformation zone under a general. They haven’t been able to diagnose any grades of the abnormalities yet. Hoping this bigger sample they get will give us some answers.

Really stressed, been working 40hrs a week on top of this all and just anxious. But I am excited to get the LLETZ

Hey!

Just wondering if any updates on your LLETZ results?

My case is similar, had an unsatisfactory colposcopy as they didn’t find much, but the citology from smear found high risk abnormal cells and HPV positive. So they will send my case for review on the MDT, however, it will only be in August and I’m worried is something higher up the the cervix (espeically as I have some unusual bleedings) that they cannot see and am super anxious of waiting almost 2 months!!

Thanks,
Carol

Hey  I’m having lletz in 2 weeks time as we’ve had to work it around their clinics and my TOTM has been so sporadic.
After the MDT they had given me a new consultant, so I had to go back for another colposcopy too see if he thought I should just be having smears or the treatment, and fill out the procedure forms as I’m having the lletz. If your case is like mine you will probably be put on an urgent list for the procedure and should get a date within a few weeks of your MDT meeting. They only hold these meetings monthly usually so is abit horrible waiting. I really do think if they thought I had something very sinister it would be dealt with quicker so hopefully that’s good news, for us both, that our appointments are spaced out  xx

What is LEETZ? Os the same with LEEP Procedure and Conization ?

Hi @Jasmine

A LLETZ is just the same procedure as a LEEP, different countries use different names for it but it is the same thing… some places just call it a LOOP

LLETZ stands for - Large Loop Excision of the Transformation Zone
LEEP - Loop Electrical Excision Procedure
LOOP - doesnt really stand for anything it just desribes the tool thats used

Tgey are a type of cone biopsy but the it just removes a circled shaped tissue sample

A cone procedure is more known as a Cold Knife Cone biopsy here, this procedure is more cone shaped that goes further in thats more triangle shaped sample. So essential looking like a cone xx

Hiya , im wondering if any of yous can tell me how long it takes to get the results of the LEEP procedure?

I have always gotten my results within 2 weeks. But they do say in clinic that they can take between 4-6weeks x

Hi @Tracy

Standard time is normally within 4 weeks but it could be anytime, my results took 8 weeks xx
