Waiting for LLETZ results - fed up!

I had my LLETZ done 5 weeks ago on 12th September and am so fed up of waiting for the results :(

I've phoned the hospital 6 times over the last couple of weeks, only to keep being told they're still not there and it can take 8 weeks. I don't understand how you can get a smear result in less than 3 weeks, but something potentially more serious can take so much longer.

I try to convince myself that no news is probably good news, but I really don't feel like I can relax and move on until the results confirm that all abnormalities have been successfully removed. I've been so positive up until now and I know there are lots of ladies going through tougher battles, but today is just one of those days where I'm struggling to keep my chin up!

Has anyone else waited this long for theirs?

Hey, waiting is a terrible thing at these times I agree. however please try not to worry, in my experience no news is good news, I was diagnosed with cc and was called 10 days after my lletz and not 6 weeks as I was told. So hang on in there and try not to panic, although I know it is easier said than done.

7/7/14 diagnosed with cc

mri showed no spread

20/8/14 radical laparascopic hysterctomy with conservation of ovaries. Histology showed microscopic involvement in one of nine nodes (not detected on mri), so radio chemo combo due to start on 20/10/14

thank you so much for your quick reply Sophie - I know I'm probably worrying about nothing but sometimes it helps just to vent! xx

No probs, I'm a worrier myself so I know where you are coming from. I think they filter the cc results out first and the rest later, we'll I assume so given that I was called within ten days and so were a couple of others I have spoken to. However if you feel better by calling the hospital, keep calling! I called from a sunbed in Turkey back in June!!

fingers crossed for you xx

I would take it as good news too, as they seem to contact the more serious cases pretty quickly.

I'm waiting 3 weeks since yesterday, they told me around 4 weeks is the norm. I guess its up to 8 weeks in busier areas unfortunately. Its so horrible waiting, and just constantly on your mind even though you know the likelihood is that everything is fine. Its still so hard to relax until you're reading that letter!

Try to keep yourself busy with other things to take your mind off it, even for a few hours a day xx

Sophie, I just read your story. Wow, all of that happened so quickly. You sound very strong and level-headed, keep it up, and best of luck on Monday xxx

Thank you jjcarnage, I'm the worlds worst worrier but when I am told what is going on, I seem to cope. I lost my dad from a heart attack at 15 and then my mum from leukaemia at 21, so I'm a very much sink or swim person! im hoping that the chemo radio will blast anything in there (if at all there is). Good luck with your results xxx

Thanks girls xx

Coming on here makes me feel better because I realise how much support there is. Sophie, you are an inspiration and thank you for taking the time to reassure me and others like me when you're going through so much yourself.

jjcarnage, fingers crossed for you that your results come through soon and thanks for your kind words xxx

Hi Laura

I echo what Sophie has put too.  I was called 10 days after mine was done which resulted in Stage 1b1 CC.  It does appear to happen that the CC ladies are told earlier rather than later.  Fingers crossed you will get good news.

Hugs

Cheryl,xx

Hi Laura,

I do know that when the results come back they first go to the consultant who will pick out the urgent cases and the non urgent cases will then wait to be typed up and sent.

I'm in exactly the same position as you, had mine done on the 17th and heard nothing yet. Was in hospital for a heavy bleed two and a half weeks after the procedure and the registrar checked the system and the results weren't available.

Rang the hospital today to be told the lady who deals with results is on leave and the same as you that they can take up to 8 weeks. It is very frustrating but I echo the ladies above I think if it was something serious we would Have been told by now so try to keep your chin up and hopefully you'll get a letter soon.

I've just posted something about mine. I got a call 2 weeks to the day to come back in and see consultant. So...thinking now that I'm not going to hear all good news??

Hi ladies

i had a colposcopy and lletz done on 16th sept. Suspected CIN2 cells removed. Called to chase the hospital today for a response and was told that my results had been referred to royal marsden multi disciplinary meeting for a second opinion. I'm very confused what this means, when I had lletz the consultant said he was very satisfied everything was removed and there woils be no follow up - on the phone today the nurse said that cin2,3 and early cancer cells look very similar and so they want a specialist opinion to decide what to do. Is it likely there will be a follow up test or is this common? She didn't really tell me what the biopsy had revealed

All this waiting is the scariest bit!

I'm 26, this was my first smear

thanks!

Hi Zippy it could be that they haven't removed it all and that you need more lletz / cone. Try not to worry, easier said than done I know xxx

Hi..I'm Ellen, This seems like a great site , and thought i would air my concerns to this fab group.

I had a Lletz procedure on 30th june...it was my second one, the first one i had  done was about 15 years ago.

This time round was pretty painful, felt like broken glass inside me as the gynie was doing procedure.

went home , had lots of pain..but minimal bleed, a bit of discharge but nothing worrying..then because i felt so unwell and in pain in pelvice/lower back 6 days later i went to my Gp. He wasnt there but i saw a locum.

He gave me Anti-Bis incase it was an infection..after 4 days felt worse..so went to the gynie who did procedure..( she wasnt impressed that i barged in on her clinic ).. and she did a urine test..said i had a water infection, and to add 2 more on the anti-bis a day..3 days later i went to my proper gp as he was back from hol's,  He tested water again..and examined my stomache, realising the pain i was in, he said it was a Pelvic infection!!.

He said the Anti-bi's i was on were more than useless..and prescribed 2 diffrent ones much highr doses.... then done my B/P..which was low, and went even lower when i stood, so that answerd why i was constantly dizzy.

He wrote to my gynie, 3 weeks later, as although i finished pills, a week after i felt bad again.

gynie took another water test..and low and behold, another infection!!..dont know what was going on!!

she also took a swab.. wasnt comfortable with her going 'in' as i didnt feel i was healed yet?

she had a go at me because she said it was my fault. nothing to do with the procedure..as i wasnt using estrogen as she sugested....the reason was, which i explained to her beforehand, was my heart problems, my cardiologist didnt recomen estrogen.

she still insisted i use it, or if i didnt bother listening to her, then in her eyes it wasnt worth treating me.

I was aghast at her attitude, i had been her patient for 16 yrs!!

Now todat 2 days after seeing her, i get a letter with an appointment for an ultrasound!..im petrified as to why i need this, as i have had no results told me, or explaination for the ultrasound.

Did something show with that last swab she took 2 days ago??..i wish i knew :(
