Travel Insurance

Hi, I'm new here.

I have a colposcopy on wednesday as I have had a positive smear indicating high grade (severe) dyskaryosis. I have a holiday booked for New York 1O days after.  I have no travel insurance at present (i'm disorganised and it didnt occur to me I would need to buy it yet). If they carry out a Lletz procedure at the colposcopy appointment I will cancel my trip. I will lose some money but i'm more concerned about my health. But if they just have a look/do a biopsy and call me back for treatment in a few weeks I would still like to go on holiday if possible. Does anyone have any experience of buying travel insurance after a colposcopy but before any kind of diognosis. I assume I will come under the catergory of "awaiting results"?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I had a lletz treatment recently- no need to cancel your holiday! You will feel fine within 2-3 days but will most likely be bleeding.

The lletz is a pretty common procedure.

Also- you don't need to include in your insurance.

Thanks Annabelle, but if i have the Lletz done at the colposcopy I will definitely be cancelling my holiday. I dont want to risk being outside the UK if i develop heavy bleeding or an infection.

What I am really trying to find out is about Travel Insurance if I dont have the Lletz. I wondered if anyone has been in this situation and what the insurance companies say?

I am not sure I agree with Annabelle. I have had to take specialist insurance for more than twenty years. They won't cover you without an extra premium for anything which has results pending or you are waiting further assessment on. You need to most definitely check with insurance company. If you omit information or tell.porkies and they find out you will find yourself not covered for unrelated stuff such as breaking your leg or having your handbag nicked. It's best to be honest. That way they will cover you for everything else but may exclude claims relating to that procedure.

I use Staysure.

Thanks Karen

I will check out Staysure after my colposcopy, when i have a better idea what's going on. I'm happy to pay an extra premium, i just dont want to be in a position where, like you said, i'm not covered for a broken leg.

I had my colposcopy and LLETZ on Tuesday and I am going away in just over 2 weeks.

I have took out a travel policy with stay sure and declared dyskaryosis, it didn't ask for any further details, I hope that covers me.

I tried getting quotes via a comparison site but they wouldn't insure me.

I don't think you'll need to cancel your holiday.

I am worried about swimming on holiday, the colposcopist said it would be fine to swim after 2 weeks providing there is no sign of infection but other people say you shouldn't swim for 6 weeks. Obviously i don't want to risk an infection but I would quite like to be able to have a dip in the pool since it's going to be hot. Does anyone know?

I am definitely going to cancel my holiday if they perform a Lletz on wednesday. I understand that people's recovery varies considerably, and for some it may only be a few days, but I don't want to be away from the UK with any risk of heavy bleeding/infection.  I know the risks of that happening are low, but the risk is there. I have had an experience of needing treatment while abroad on holiday so i guess I may be a bit overcautious (I had an early miscarriage while on holliday in the caribbean).

Hi,

I think perhaps it's right to declare awaiting results- possibly because I'm trying to stay positive for myself (eek). I hope you're appointment goes okay and that you don't need the lletz so you can enjoy your holiday! Such a scary time all this waiting isn't it.

Yes it is a scary time. It's easy to think the worst. Hopefully I will have a better idea later on today.
