Over 65

I had CIN 3 and a colposcopy about 12 years ago. Since then there has been abnormal smears but when rechecked 6 months later all has been fine. I have recently returned from living in Australia for 17 years where I had my regular smears. I arrived here with my letter from my GP reminding me that another test was overdue. I contacted my GP practice here and was booked in for next week.
I have now received a call saying that as I am over 65 ( 66 at end Oct) I cannot have the test carried out. Do women over this age not matter? If I have or develop cervical cancer it is likely to be in a more advanced stage and require surgery or even worse.
The stats say that the percentage of women out with this notional cut off age has risen.
I can’t believe that such a relatively straightforward test is blocked forv women over 65.
I am so angry!

Hi Kate,

You are right to be angry!

I think that maybe your new GP has not taken into account that you had cin 3 twelve years ago and some abnormal paps since then.

Have you tried to explain him?
