Lump in cervix - 2 week referral

Hi all,
Went to doctors because of spotting after sex and heavy periods. Plus had thrush again! Doctor did swabs and found a lump in my cervix - referred me under 2 week wait. Utterly petrified. Have convinced myself I’m dying. Hospital is on Tuesday for a coloscopy and my partner can’t come in as the room is too small. If it is cancer do they suspect straight away and say that? If it wasn’t and it was like a polyp or cyst can they tell me on the day? I was just expecting the doctors to say they would move my smear forward. I have 3 children and all I can think of is leaving them. Help me please.

Hi Clare
I can imagine the shock and utter horror you are feeling… sadly until the colposcopy is done, no one would be able to tell you what it is so hopefully you will be relaxed enough on Tuesday for the team to find out what is the lump… The good thing is once they suspect something, they put us on fast track which means you are under the experts’ care…

I went on colposcopy within 2 wks of smear results coming back as abnormal back in august… I dont have any symptoms… Colposcopy showed CIN3 abnormal cells (not cancer) that needed to be treated by lletz under GA which again was scheduled within 2wks… so far all clear and awaiting 6months for test of cure… like you I have 3 kids so we naturally fear the worst!

Keep us posted… there are a lot of lovely ladies here who are on different journeys ready to support you…

Hi Clare

If they suspect is cancer on the day I think it depends on the person doing the colposcopy as to whether or not they would say anything; you could always ask the question. My cancer was found during a hysteroscopy and the doc told me there and then (after I’d come round from the GA) that there were obvious abnormalities on my cervix and that she thought it was most likely cancer - it was, see my back story.

Easy to say but try not to jump to conclusions. My cancer diagnosis was preceded by about 6 months of persistent vaginal discharge and spontaneous heavy bleeding; nevertheless my tumour was stage 2A, hardly ideal but very cureable. It’s nearly 5 years since my diagnosis and I’m NED (no evidence of disease) so far.

Hi Claire,
When I went to my GP after suffering from discharge when she examined me she could see mass and she immediately referred me for a colposcopy. At the colposcopy the doctor thought it was a fibroid but said she couldn’t say for certain until biopsy was done. She took biopsy and I went back 2 weeks later and unfortunately it was not a fibroid it was cervical cancer.
I am 5 weeks post treatment chemo and radiotherapy I am currently feeling well.
Any questions give me a shout.
Take care x

Hi Claire,
I didnt have any symptoms but the nurse found a lump on my cervix too at my first ever smear. I had to wait 2 weeks for my coloscopy, they told me there and then I had advanced HPV but had to wait another week for the biopsy results to confirm I had cancer, I was told over the phone not ideal but I suppose coz of covid.
Anyway everything moved really fast in in terms tests and seeing specialists. I was diagnosed with stage 1b1 cc on 29th July and had a radical hysterectomy on 17th Sept Ive been told I’m cancer free and needed no chemo or radiotherapy I have a follow up in Dec. Just taking it is at home trying to decide when to go back to work!!
I know its hard not worry but the doctors and nurses were amazing at my coloscopy and every doctor or nurse I’ve spoke to since! Good luck xxx
