Biopsy results not matching up?

Hello, I've been a long time reader. I really appreciate everyone's contribution to this forum and have found a lot of answers here in the past.

Last year my pap came back positive for HPV16. At that time I was referred for a colpo which looked ok and no biopsies were taken at that time. I had a repeat pap this past November which showed CIN1. I just had my second Colpo Feb 5 and they took two biopsies. One came back CIN1 and the other came back as CIN3 with endocervical gland involvement - so I was scheduled or a leep.

My leep was scheduled for today. First the doctor put the solution on my cervix to look at the suspicious areas and he said he could not see anything that looked like CIN3. He decided not to do the leep and refer me to a gyno oncologist because he said he cannot rightfully do the leep if he does not see anything that looks as bad as CIN3 and said pathology can be wrong.

I'm a little freaked out and confused although I guess it could be good  that my cervix doesn't look too bad, but am worried something sinister could be hiding, has anyone had this happen? How did it turnout? I am 31 and still want to have children.

He also said that I have a cervix that kind of blossoms out more (erosion?) which means you have to cut a larger area off so he definitely doesn't want to do a leep if not needed. He said they may want to repeat the biopsy.

Hope you are all well, trying not to worry  <3

Hi, I see this is a post from 2018 but you didn’t get any responses. My results don’t match either and I am super worried because my pap showed abnormal cells but colposcopy didn’t show anything. My doctor recommended LEEP because I have the hug risk type. She said the cells could be hiding and a little bit more deep and that’s why colposcopy didn’t got any. I hope you still on this forum and can reply to my message. I’m so confused and wild like to know what happened to your unmatched results

I’ve had similar.

Cin3 pap and two clear biopsies. I’m really worried considering I’ve had recurring cin before and two letz

I’ve been advised that the second biopsy was from the same location of the pap. Does anyone know how they can tell? Is this at a cellular level?

Hey, sorry you are going through that. I ended up being referred to an oncology gyno and had a leep under general anesthesia shortly after that post. I absolutely don’t regret it. My leep results showed cin3 but I did have clear margins. I’ve had normal paps every year since and one uncomplicated pregnancy and birth. I did have to see a maternal fetal specialist a few times during my pregnancy and get my cervix measured to make sure they did not have to place a stitch in (they did not have to). I made it past 40 weeks so my cervix held up fine. My labor was very very quick, 8 cm dilated by the time I got to the hospital which a nurse said the leep may have contributed but it was not an issue. Best of luck to you
