Hi Donna,

Are you still in contact with your cancer team? If i was in your position Id be contacting my cancer nurse specialist and insisting in an appointment. Have you tried your GP?

From what ive read in here sometimes post treatment issues can start a few years after treatment but not necessarily be recourrence but something caused by all the treatment.

Keep bugging your medical team!!

Thank you like I said just been a few weeks ago I’m with the gp tomorrow so hopefully something will be sorted

That’s good!!!

Hopefully nothing to worry about

Hi Donna

Have you heard about pelvic radiation disease (PRD)? I haven’t personally had it, but had a reoccurance and I’m forever googling symptoms and issues. I’m sure I’m destined to be a Gynaecologist in my next life.
My reoccurrence didn’t have any symptoms.
Have a look into it if your MRIs are clear
X

Thanks besty… I’ll mention this tomorrow I’ll have a Google now…

Hi Donna

The Pelvic Radiation Disease Association is a UK based charity which offers support and information for PRD; they have a forum on Health Unlocked:

https://www.prda.org.uk/
https://healthunlocked.com/

Are you bleeding from your bladder? Blood in the urine can be due to so called ‘radiation cystitis’. I haven’t had bleeding when I urinate but a recent cystoscopy showed I have telangiectasia on my bladder wall; the urologist advised me that it was the result of my radiotherapy treatment. The images on the screen showed pronounced blood vessels which I think could bleed quite easily.

I do get bleeding from my rectum with bowel motions on occasions; this is due to ‘radiation proctitis’ - yet another gift from radiotherapy treatment!

I’m not a doctor but I would think with urinary frequency and kidney pain the first check should be for a UTI asap.

Thank you you’ve been so much help on here… I’ve felt almost abandoned by covid and such this forum has helped me millions thank you so much

Well the doctors told me to ring the hospital team again about this bleeding… Its happening everymonth now… I only want someone to explain why so I don’t worry … I’ve had an anxiety attack and come home crying and feel at a lost end again he’s done nothing about pain depression or loss of feeling in hand legs and feet…get the bleeding sorted and come back about the other things he said… it’s been 3 years and I have 4 or 5different things wrong now … I feel like they don’t care… Just keep going till I can’t no more… I just don’t no what to do anymore

Sorry to hear how distressed you are, Nannydee - I think on this occasion your doctor is right that the primary problem is the bleeding and frothy wee - which does sound like kidney issues. These could be due to PRD. If you are having kidney problems you will get aches and pains in the abdomen and groin area which can spread (referred pain) down your legs. So the important thing is to investigate this. Is your doctor referring you to a specialist urologist or gynaecologist? If not you can ask for a referral. The depression is undoubtedly related to the pain you are in and the feeling that no-one cares, which is horrible.

You’ve now mentioned a loss of feeling in hands and feet - this sounds like peripheral neuropathy and could be related to chemo, so something to ask your cancer team. If it were related to chemo I would expect it to have been ongoing since treatment. Otherwise, if it’s a new symptom, I can see the doctor wants to look at the primary problem first, and see if that impacts on your other symptoms.

If it gets too bad, I would go along to Urgent Care and see if you can get some investigation started. I do hope there is light in the end of the tunnel for you soon. X

Yes ongoing since chemo the numbness n pins and needles the doc said its nothing to do with my kidneys… Even tho there still hurting… And the doctor didn’t refer me anywhere… Just said to ring my consultant about the bleeding I’m going backwards and forwards just came back from consultant and a clear mri scan… who said to see gp about neuropathy and constant tiredness and pain then I started bleeding in between told doc about kidney pain… Pain in sides of abdomen and bleeding … Only when urinating… And the neuropathy and he said goto you’re consultant and dismissed the other till that’s sorted been going back and forth for 3 years with this :frowning:… I’m going to ring my key worker tomorrow my mental heath is failing again… Thank you

Yes, please ring your key worker and take all the help you can get. It sounds to me like you could do with a different GP as well - is there anyone else in your practice you can see?

Regarding the tingling and numbness - which given what you’ve said is chemo related - one of the reasons this peripheral neuropathy happens is that not only does chemo itself cause nerve damage in this way, but chemo depletes the body of the vitamin B12 and makes it harder to absorb. One of the symptoms of B12 anaemia is peripheral neuropathy. Another is fatigue…. Can you try to take some B12 supplements along with Folic acid capsules (B9) which help the body absorb it? B12 injections are the best way to raise it but God help anyone in the UK trying to get routine B12 injections at their GP surgery, although it is commonplace in the US and other better informed countries…

It’s worth a try. You really cannot overdose on B12, and it’s crucial, especially as we get older.

You’re not taking statins, are you? X

No I’m not taking anything at all… I feel I’m in less pain without medication… If that makes sense… My stomach is sensitive so try to avoud anything unless absolutely necessary… I eat healthy don’t drink alcohol keep fit… I should be at My best I just don’t understand why no one can explain why its happening :woman_shrugging:

I had a b12 deficiency in 2018 that was diagnosed as pernicious anemia… I was put on injections for 6 months then they found the cancer… I continued to have injections till after treatment because I Was told I couldn’t absorb vitamins and that’s why I had to have these…then they took me off them… Thus was 2 years ago I’ve lost 2 more teeth (5 in 3 years) can hardly feel my feet and lower legs constantly feel sick… Fatigued… Achy and have mental health problems to top it off

Hi Donna,

I am shocked that they took you off the B12 if you have ever been diagnosed with pernicious anaemia. Please ask your doctor to put you back on them. 2 years without B12 supplementation if you’re not absorbing your vitamins properly is far too long. You could also request a full blood profile, including things like iron, potassium and other things.

I can understand not wanting to upset your stomach, but it sounds like you could do with some probiotics (for your gut health) and a good proprietary multivitamin (something like Sanatogen, for your age group) as well - if you’ve got a sensitive stomach make sure you take your multivitamin with food. Some of what you’re experiencing could be down to vitamin deficiency.

But the peeing blood - that needs to be sorted out ASAP. Foamy urine is generally an indicator of kidney damage. One cause can be Rhabdomyolysis - I know because my husband had this and it was due to an intolerance to statins over the course of many years. Has your doctor done a dipstick test with your urine? Are you bleeding other than when you pee, and are you sure it’s blood in your pee - is it the colour of the pee that you’re seeing or actual blood? All these things you need to talk to your doctor about. I hope you can get some help soon.

Keep going back to docs. Your health is to important, your to important
