Urgent referal for Colposcopy

Hi all. I went for smear test at end of January. No word back from GP, so assumed all ok.
Received phone call from my local hospital today to come in for appointment on Friday. I asked if it was urgent. The lady just told me the consultant wants to see me in.
The results have not made it as far as the GP yet and she told me she could not tell me them.
I had HPV many years ago. And i has laser removal. But subsequent smear tests came back normal.
I checked out the name of the consultant and he specialises in gynecology cancer.
Can they tell if its anything serious now by smear test results or will they not know anything until i get my colposcopy on Friday?

Hi, I was called by the hospital and booked for colposcopy before my results came. They arrive the following day with HPV and moderate cell changes, seems to be the normal way of working, frightening nonetheless. There are plenty of ladies I have seen with the same happen that have not had a cancer diagnosis after colposcopy. That aside, it is very important that you attend

Thank you for replying. Yes i got through to GP on phone today. They told me I was HPV positive (but not the cancer ones) with moderate cell changes - dyskaryosis (I had actually never heard of this word before looking through this forum last night).
She told me nothing to worry about. At least now i can attend my appointment tomorrow a lot more relaxed.
Thanks again for your reply. It really has eased my mind.

Hi. I had the same thing. Smear in January. Results and letter from hospital came on same day 2 weeks ago. Have had colposcopy a week ago. Doctor was so nice. I had pre-cancerous cells and positive hpv. Doctor took a biopsy and removed the cells. Awaiting results and to have a smear in 3 months. I’m 65 and now wondering in future years will any checks be made. Here’s hoping your news is good when you see the doc.

Thank you Anne. Did they give you an indication of when you will receive biopsy results?
Thats great you are getting another smear in 3 months. It looks like they are being very pro active with your care. Fingers crossed your biopsy and next smear will come back clear.

Hi. Think doctor said about 3 weeks. Hope so. Must admit feeling a lot less anxious after speaking to doctor at hospital.

Hi all. Went for my colposcopy today. Turns out my last lletz procedure was exactly 10 years ago. The consultant at the time removed twice the usual amount of cervix as i had a high amount of abnormal cells. Because of this they were unable to carry out the proceedure and i have been referred for theatre as there is a risk of my vaginal walls collapsing. Also when i have this surgery i will be unable to have anymore children. Although at 42 this has a lot less impact than it would have if i was 22. They were still able to carry out a biopsy and will receive the results in a few weeks…
Anyways they gave me so much information that i just couldn’t take it all in. My advice would be to take someone with you as a second pair of ears.
