Side effects from LLETZ?

Hi there,

I had a LLETZ procedure April 2022 for CIN3, after which my abnormal cells were completely removed with two good smear tests since.

Then in July of this year I started having bleeding, cramps and discharge which has totally freaked me out! I have had a pelvic scan, STI screening, swabs for any potential infection and all have come back clear.

I am hoping this may be a side effect of the LLETz and not something more sinister but I amnt sure as I don’t know why I would only develop these side effects 1.5 years later? I recently went for a cervix examination and the doctor said it’s nothing to worry about but it is really stressing me out, especially because it seems to be getting worse and it’s definitely not normal.

Has anyone experienced something similar after LLETZ? I am going to another specialist before Christmas to try get some answers. Hoping it is not something very serious…

Thanks,
Lisa

Hey,

Just to say I am experiencing very similar symptoms to you following my lletz. I had 2 lletz one under GA Dec 22 and second in colposcopy Feb 23 which i got clear margins. Since July/Aug I have been getting spotting and bleeding inbetween periods and mild cramps/bloating my 6 month smear was normal. I went back to colposcopy on the 2ww for the bleeding and they couldn’t see my cervix so referred me to hysterscopy, but they couldn’t get the camera through my cervix as it was too closed so now waiting for a scan! Im so anxious about what might be causing it, if its higher up in cervix or uterus!

Have you had any further tests or results?

No further tests but I have an appointment Dec 21st with a gynaecologist to try get some more answers.

I notice my symptoms are almost on cycle around my period, the worst symptoms being the week or two weeks after and then they slowly get better until my next period and the cycle starts all over again. Has anyone noticed something similar?

Wondering if a pelvic scan would have shown all types of vaginal cancer (or if I need to request from further scans?) also reading smear tests may not show if I had a cancer higher up in the uterus. The doctors keep saying it’s nothing to be concerned about but I am definitely concerned and want to ensure everything has been checked…
