New can anyone help please

Hi there I’m Laura this is my first post

I just wanted to ask advice please as to what my symptoms could be (I know I should just wait for my appointment but I’d just like a bit of advice)

My history

abnormal smear 12 years ago which was CIN 3 and I had a LOOP excision

I’ve since had clear smears

in Oct I started to bleed inbetween periods so went the docs in dec they tried to see my cervix but I was on my period that day so advised me to come back

fast foward to last week I went back and the nurse said my cervix has ectropian and looked like the cells where coming for inside to outside and it looked red

She has sent me for a 2 week referral which has me a bit worried as I know they only do that If they suspect cancer

this appointment is on Tuesday and I am booked to see a gynaecologist cancer specialist

my symptoms are

bleeding between periods ( 4 months )

pain on my left side abdo low down

pain in left leg

Low back pain which comes and goes

On a scan within the last year it said I have a enlarged uterus and small kidney cyst but didn’t seem a problem as nothing was said to me I just read this on my letter

I had swabs the other week when she looked at my cervix which have come back clear ( I know she swabbed for chlamydia not sure what else )

my blood test came back that my hormone levels are normal but I have high cholesterol

I’m trying not to freak out too much but just wanted a bit of advice please

I’m 41 with 2 children

thanks Laura xx

Hi Laura,

I’m not a medical specialist, but it sounds like cervical ectropion is pretty harmless:

My guess is you’ve been referred on the two-week basis because more serious causes need to be ruled out. Statistically, and given all the checks that you’ve had recently, that strikes me as highly unlikely, so the person who referred you is probably being conscientious in making sure a specialist takes a look - which is a good thing, as you’re not being fobbed off like so many people are these days.

Fortunately, you don’t have too long to wait, but I know the waiting is always difficult!

Hi Nat thank you

They had a look at my cervix and said she thinks the nurse at the doc has seen the scaring on my cervix from a previous surgery ( loop excision )

But they have taken a biopsy from inside my cervix ( I’m guessing from the womb ) and have ordered a womb scan to double check everything

but she didn’t seem overly concerned with the cervix will just wait and see xx
