Hrt

Hi, I’ve been cancer free now for just over a year, I keep being told to get my HRT sorted out, but it scares me to death going on it, my whole life I’ve struggled with my hormones, I’ve gone from one pill to the next always having issues, now since all my treatment I feel “normal” and haven’t wanted to kill anyone lol, I have a few hot flushes but no more than I used to have, my hair is growing and thicker than when I was a child (which I’m loving) so basically I feel better than ever has anyone else felt like this? I just don’t know what to do x

Hiya

I can understand how you feel about not wanting to go onto HRT. I never really got on well with the contraceptive pill. It used to turn me into a crazy woman and make me feel quite nauseous.

However, i went straight onto HRT patches after my RH and oopherectomy and I feel totally fine. In fact i feel a lot less bloated than i did before.  I think it depends on whether it was oestrogen or progesterone causing you the problems.  I'm on evorel which has no progesterone and I feel fine. Although my husband is watching me like a hawk for signs of crazy appearing...

Hi Julie,

I’m not sure how old you are, but depending on age, HRT will also be required for your bones to help with preventing osteoporosis. Especially if menopause has been triggered earlier that the  average menopause age (51). You might have to try a few different HRT brands until you find the one that’s right for you. I was lucky mine worked first time and I started 2 weeks after surgery. I don’t feel any different and have had no symptoms. But I guess what I’m trying to say is that HRT benifits are not just to control symptoms. Your GP or consultant will also be able to refer you to a hormone specialist. You might have to push for that.

You could always email ask the expert on here for advice.

I was scared to go on but done w lot of research. I also went To a menopause session at maggies centre and in Glasgow we have a menopause clinic

i was told at my age , 33, the benefits outweigh any risks. The risks are actually minimal. We need hrt for bone and heart health.

Im on kliofem- my night sweats stopped and my mood improved after 3 weeks. No issues at all.

Hi Julie

I am 45 and take a daily low dose HRT callee Kilovance and aside from a few spots it causes me no problems.  I also was encouraged to start this by the oncologist to support long term bone and heart function and am also prescribed vitamin D, I was hesitant to start with but was told too that the benefits outway the risks x
