I had smear 3 weeks ago, my results were hpv detected and mild abnormal cell changes. I was referred for a colposcopy which I had today. The nurse looked and applied the solution.
I was told hpv virus present but no abnormal cells so back on the 3 year cycle.
Is this right?! The doctor who referred me said I would go on a 6 monthly then yearly cycle. Which is what happened in 2001 when first identified hpv ( all subsequent smears within a year then were fine)

I live in the United States so it may be different but you should not wait three years to be seen again! At the very least they should see you in a year but I would try for 6 months to make sure the mild changes do not progress. At the very least the new protocol is to retest for hpv in a year..
