Hearing loss and loud ringing

I reported to one of my doctors that over the last couple of weeks my hearing seems to be muffled. I also many times a day have an episode where my hearing completely goes all but the loudest high pitched ringing in this world that makes me grab my ears with both hands! It nearly sends me into a craze! My dr said that it is probably a side effect of the Cistplatin as he read that it was a rare side effect and typically irreversible... Although he reassured me that complete deafness is pretty rare, but if it gets bad enough I might want to think about hearing aids. Excuse my language, but are you f**king kidding me? Im going to address the chemo doctor today about this. Has anyone else had a problem with their ears???

I have had some hearing loss and now have tinnitus. This has been since taking cisplatin. I did have my ears syringes, which made some difference,  but it's still a problem. I have not been back to my GP as I know he will send me to another specialist with a view to having hearing aids, but it doesn't feel bad enough for that yet! Worth mentioning it to the oncologist as they might reduce the chemo dose. When do you have to go again for number 5. Good luck with it. X

Hi nm. Just to say my oncologist mentioned hearing problems as a cisplatin side effect - he suggested in the long term it's usually the very top and bottom notes that are lost, although he did say it's not always permenent. I hope you get some relief and it proves to be short term.

Hey ladies well my chemo doc said that the hearing loss is a sign of toxicity (sp)? and that my dose has been too high. So again I have to skip ANOTHER chemo, and later this week will do a 5th and final lower dose. Oh also my wbc count was bad today so I get to get an injection, yay...Not!  Bleh this is never ending!

Hi nm

hang in there. You are close to the end. At least this solves the dilemma of how many chemos to go through. It is a journey of many obstacles but well worth it in the end. Stay strong, you can do it!

Hi NM

I was suffering with a loud buzzing in my left ear I originally experienced it after my first chemo I told my consultant and was sent for a hearing test which came back as normal, it kind of went away then and no more was said about it but the last few weeks since finishing treatment I have it off and on in both ears, I find when Im on the phone at times I cant make out what the other person is saying to me, it doesnt seem to be that common but does affect some of us unfortunately..

Hiya! Puts hand up!

ive got irriversable hearing loss in both ears which has been caused by the treatment - I had a low hearing in my right ear but now it's really lowered and I've had to have 2 hearing aids which don't help really. They just amplify noise which I'm fine with it's speech i struggle  with and the nhs hearing aids aren't strong enough to help with this. you need to tell your doctor asap as they can tweak your treatment to help with this - i was told this but  that point it was too late. I also have constant ringing - annoying!

Me too.....Pulsatille tinnitus. Very annoying.

Never get the quite moments now.My ears are

ultra sensitive,I can't stand loud music anymore.

These rare side effects don't seem that rare....!!

Hang on in there ;-)
