Abnormal cells & HPV positive

Hi all,

Quick question, hoping that someone may be able to help me.
I recently had my first smear test which has come back showing I have abnormal cells and that I am also HPV positive, I am booked in for a colposcopy but I have a little question beforehand.

I first had sex at 15 with my now fiancé and fell pregnant that first time, I gave birth to our daughter who is now 7 :), my question is:
If I am HPV positive, and am certain we have only had intercourse with each other in that time, will I have had HPV for the last 10 years?
I have been suffering with abnormal bleeding, pain during sex for the past 7/8 years but the GP has refused a smear based on my age, I have been tested for all STI’s etc and have all come back negative.

Thank you in advance for any answers.

PS- We have recently had a son (7 months), and I bled the whole pregnancy on and off, a consultant had a look at my cervix and diagnosed a cervical erosion, but it hasn’t cleared up and with the now confirmed presence of abnormal cells and HPV I am now wondering if it was not in fact an erosion but something more sinister?
