Smear and colposcopy results

Hi all,
I had my results letter which stated the colposcopy revealed a type 3 transformation zone. I am totally confused by this and I dont understand what it means completely. Would anyone be able to help?
Thanks

Hi Candicehs,

I also got a letter stating that I had a Type 1 Transformation zone and was confused too; however, I don’t think it’s something to worry about yet - I think it’s more the doctor’s notes on visibility of an area of the cervix.

I did some googling and a transformation zone is the area where cervical cells are most likely to become cancerous. It is the area just around the opening of the cervix that leads on to the endocervical canal (https://www.cancerresearchuk.org/about-cancer/cervical-cancer/about).

The type number relates to the doctor’s ability to see the transformation zone as the position is different for each person. See some links below that might be useful:

I’ll let you know if I find out anything more. I’m waiting for my biopsy results to have a proper conversation with the doctor about the medical jargon written in the colposcopy letter.

I hope the above is helpful
