More cell changes 6 months after Lletz

Hi Everyone!

I had Lletz in August 23 for CIN2, where they got clear margins. I have just received my results for my 6 month check and I still have high risk HPV with borderline changes.

I am not usually a worrier, and I know it’s only borderline changes, but to have changes again so quickly I can’t help but worry.

I will have a colposcopy letter on the way with an appointment that I will have to move as we are going away on holiday this week for 2.5 weeks, so it’ll be the end of February that I’ll go.

Has anyone else had changes within such a short time of removal with clear margins?

Thanks for reading xx

Snap! I had treatment for CIN3 6 months ago and have just got the results for my most recent smear whoch is the same as yours - borderline cell changes. Ive got an appointment for a colposcopy in a couple of weeks time.
Positive thinking x

Also snap! I had CIN2 removed in May with clear margins. At my 6 month check, still HR HPV with low-grade changes.

I went for a colposcopy 5 weeks ago. The Dr said that sometimes HPV can make the cells look abnormal and it can take time to fight it off, even after lletz! Unfortunately, some types of HPV causes more cell changes than others. He wasn’t worried and said he couldn’t see any abnormalities, but he took a biopsy just for reassurance. I am still waiting for the results. I can understand how you’re feeling. The thought of going through the process again is horrible. My heart sank when I got my 6 month results back.

I hope you also have good results and we can clear this soon x

Hi,

sorry to jump on this thread just wondered how you all got on with your results?

I’m in a slighty similar situation, My smear last August was HPV+ low grade changes, referred for colposcopy during which the specialist said she couldn’t see anything abnormal and to return in 6months for a follow up smear/colposcopy just to check again.

Fast forward 6months, this Feb i went back for my follow up. Had my smear done, followed by the colposcopy during which again she said she couldn’t see any abnormalities & called me ‘boring’ which is was quite relieved about:L

Just got my smear results yesterday evening on the app and they are HPV+ and low grade changes again. Feeling very anxious and confused and conflicted with the two different results. Could something have been missed during the colposcopy, how can the results be different when the tests were literally minutes apart?
i always thought that colposcopy results were the bigger picture compared to a smear which is just a sample of the cells essentially but now i have all sorts running through my head.

Unfortunately i got my results from the screening programme yesterday evening so i won’t be able to contact anyone at hospital till monday to find out a little more of what the next steps will be, here’s to a weekend wasted of worrying🙃

Hi M4ry,

I hope you managed to get some answers today. This whole process is scary and gives a lot of anxiety, especially with all the waiting.

I’ve spent the last 2 months with all this in the back of my mind, so I can completely relate. Unfortunately, I’ve not had my results back yet. Though, I managed to get some information. Apparently my results are in the post and all they could tell me over the phone, was that my follow up would be with the GP in a years time. Which I imagine means it was clear or CIN1.

If I’m right, your Dr said your colposcopy looked okay but your smear came back low grade? I think I had a similar situation but I had my smear results back before the colposcopy, where the Dr couldn’t see anything. Obviously, everyone is different but my Dr told me that sometimes just having HPV can cause the smear test to come back with low grade cell changes. The HPV can cause your cells to look different. I also think the only way they can completely confirm it, is through a biopsy. So it might be worth asking about that.

I hope this helps in some way but I understand it’s hard not to worry until you get answers. Try not to get too into your head, I’m sure it will be okay in the end x

thanks for taking the time to reply! the waiting is definitely the worst, i haven’t had any calls or letters from my gynaecologist this week (which i thought i might have) so i did try and call today but the phone just kept ringing out🙃 will have to try again monday.

That to me sounds like pretty good news in terms of your results if the follow up isn’t for another year, although you haven’t had the official results that must give you a sense of relief. I’m guessing you may have received them now if they was in the post the other day so i hope they was good for you🤞🏻

Yeah that’s right, colposcopy i was under the impression was clear but smear low grade changes. I do think maybe for my own sanity i may see if they would be willing to do a biopsy just to be on the cautious side as i have seen a few stories of people of people having nothing seen during the iodine test, but then ending up having the highest level of cell changes or even CC, which unfortunately seem to be the only stories that stick in my brain🙃

It does really help hearing others experiences, definitely need to try get out of my own head sometimes. Do let me know how your results were/are? x

Hello! Yeah I can completely relate… I had to chase and chase for my biopsy results. I even got a bit of sass back from the receptionist when I was chasing! I hope you got somewhere yesterday! I finally got my results this morning (after 2 months), the biopsy showed inflammation and no cervical changes, which is the best result I could hope for! I feel like I can relax a little until the cycle begins again next year!

Okay, that does sound positive, if your Dr couldn’t see anything at the colposcopy. But I can completely understand wanting a biopsy to make sure. Although this forum is great, I think you can find yourself going down a rabbit hole reading all the stories. So try not to read too much! The best advice I have - although its all quite scary, even if they do find anything, its most likely been caught early and is easily treated. I had low grade changes on my smear, which came back as inflammation so try not to think worst case, as the smear tests aren’t 100% accurate. I hope that helps in some way. I know it’s easy for me to say, now I am on the other side. But I wish I didn’t worry so much because it will all work out in the end. Sending lots of positive thoughts and I hope you can get somewhere with the biopsy! x
