What kind of biopsy did I have?

Just got back from my colposcopy and biopsy. I wasn't thinking clear enough to ask the right questions or seek clarification while in the stirrups so I'm hoping some of you can help me make sense of what went down:)

They took several biopsies, but only put the tissue in two different tubes.

He had to use an instrument to "move my cervix" to get around to where he needed and took a couple samples. Additionally, he used some kind of instrument to go inside the cervix itself to get a sample.

I asked if what they were doing was a LEEP, he said no. I said punch biopsy, he said no....that it was like "picking off" tissue...whatever that means?

He also volunteered he can't give me any indication either way of the staging until pathology looks at it, which could be Friday or Monday. But then as he was leaving the room, he said something to the effect of, "Well, it doesn't look like cancer." Okay sir, that's not entirely helpful Foot in Mouth

Hi, katethegreat (from the US, also)

I wonder if you had an endocervical curettage (ECC) or an endometrial biopsy, both of which would require going into the endocervical canal. What prompted the biopsy? Sounds like your doctor was not very forthcoming, which isn't great and not very compassionate.

Oh shucks! I thought that was all saved in my signature but it must not have!

Timeline:

2004 - abnormal, colposcopy and LEEP

clear paps this entire time, had 3 babies

4/2/2018 - abnormal, HSIL, negative HPV

4/17/2018 - colposcopy and biopsy

I guess the doctor was in the military for like fifteen years. It was odd, because the first thing he commented on when I put my feet up was my french pedicure (by name). He said his daughter was just talking about those the week before lol. The ECC sounds about right from reading the description of it. Odd that he'd use language like "picking off" tissue. Embarassed
