Hi everyone, I'm new to this site but it looks fabulous. I've had HPV hanging over me for 6 years. I had stage 3 cells and had them removed 4 years ago.
My specialist put me on annual screenings until 2022 and referred me back to my doctors. I always have my screening in June and haven't had my invite through yet.
im particularly impatient as I am wanting to start a family (age32) and I know pregnancy hormones can be pretty nasty if Hpv is present.
my doctor has told me that due to advances there is a new high risk screening and if that is clear then you go back to 3yearly. This is terrifying as mt specialist said that I could be dead in 3 years if stage three cells are left.
im trying to get in touch with my specialist to see if he can convince my doctor to see me annually. He isn't in work until Friday and I desperately need peace of mind.
im googling private testing-I'm prepared to pay but it's annoying that I should need to.
Hello. Yes they do test your sample for HPV. If it comes back neg, you are back on the three yearly checks. If it comes back as HPV positive, you get a colposcopy, and if clear, you are back on the three yearly check up. I dream of being discharged back on a three yearly check. But even if I am, I will pay for yearly smears on between. Have had too many scares over the past three years.
I'm waiting to see what my specialist says as he was adamant that I had to be checked annually until 2022. If he agrees with the three yearly thing then I will pay annually. Do you know how I would pay annually. Would I have to have private healthcare or can my doctors still do it?
I had abnormal cells for over 10 years and was recently put back on 3 yearly, same as you. I also begged. The lab will simply refuse to test the smear if it is not due.
I decided to go privately this year for smear and HPV test. This was also clear. I went to Marie Stopes. They were charging £79 for a smear or £185 for smear and HPV. I did the smear and HPV and had the results a couple of days later by email. I would definitely recommend this for peace of mind!
