Screening result

I have recently had a screening test and haven’t had results through the post yet but have just seen online that it’s saying …

HPV positive,
Atrophic changes,
Transition cells present .

It is of no surprise that I am still hpv positive as it seems to not clear! ( I’ve been positive for 4 years)
What I dont understand is atrophic changes … does that mean abnormal?

I am very worried waiting for a letter explaining and unable to get a gp appointment.
I am 65 and feeling very anxious.
Would appreciate hearing from someone .

Hi @Sam7

Atrophic refers to thinning/shrinkage due to your age-quite normal when you’re post menopausal, and doesn’t mean abnormal cells. x

Thank you so much for your response. I was particularly worried as I have HPV that isn’t clearing. X

I understand it can be more difficult to clear as we get older, but still doesn’t mean you would ever get an abnormal result. x

Thank you for your support, I’ve just lost my husband of 40 years and feeling very anxious about life. X

Oh, I’m so sorry to hear that…I’m sure it will make you extra anxious about things, but despite persistent hpv, you may never have anything more than that so try not to worry too much about it. Take care. x
