Rushed biopsy, MRI scan & results booked within a week!

Please forgive me, I did not know what catergory to put this under but I am experiencing so much anxiety at the moment. I just wanted to know if anyone else has had same ‘rushed’ experience. In 2015 at the age of 25, I had the heated loop to remove cancerous cells/early cervical cancer. I have tested positive for HPV but in the years since, my smears returned to normal including my last smear 2 years ago.

However, I recently attended my GP for blood tests due to fainting (first time ever), feeling nauseous and dizzy and hot flushes. I am also bleeding a LOT during sex sometimes, and I mean a LOT! It looks like a murder scene. So I had blood tests which were normal, I’m not on any contraception. I went for an ultrasound but my bladder wasn’t full enough so they did an internal probe. She said my ovaries look fine and sent the results to my GP.

2 days later I saw my GP and she also did an internal examination & said I had a polyp on my cervix. She said she would refer me to a gynaecologist at the hospital. I told her about my previous cervical cancer scare and straight away, she said she would refer me urgently.

Again, within 2 days, I received a call and had an appointment booked for 5 days later to have this ‘polyp’ removed. However, the gynaecologist seemed to spend a long time examining me internally and said it was not a polpy. She took 3x biopsies. She asked my partner to sick closer to me once I was dressed and told me it may be cervical cancer. She said she can’t tell 100%. But started to talk about fertility saving treatment… she also said she would refer me for an MRI scan and maybe a PET scan too urgently. And booked an appointment for exactly a week later to discuss the findings.

Later that day, I received another call and my appointment was booked for the MRI 3 days later - tomorrow. It’s all happened so quickly compared to what I have read online re waiting times, results to come back etc. I see her this coming Tuesday 29th Nov for the results.

But my previous scare and the fact this seems very rushed and urgent has made me so scared!! Surely IF there is cancer, it can’t be TOO developed as my last smear 2 years ago was fine?!

Can anyone help. Are these appointments and subsequent results so quickly normal? Or do you think she has seen something very alarming? I just cannot stop thinking about it. Trying to keep busy with work but going through a breakup whereby I suffered emotional abuse and controlling behaviour and remembering my mums treatment when she had anal cancer a few years ago. Seeing how awful that was. I feel so close to a breakdown! If anyone can help, advise or reassure please do!

Thanks in advance xx

Hi
I understand how confusing and concerning it can be tone told you may have cancer and to be fast tracked into treatment.
My doctor fast tracked me because of my bleeding. She wanted to make sure we addressed the bleeding quickly.

I know it’s hard to wait and worry. I’m happy your Dr is being quick and responsive. I’m still here after a cancer dx in 2009.

Take care and let us know how it goes.

I hope maybe it is because of the bleeding! What is cancer ‘dx’ sorry? Cancer diagnosis? Was it advanced? What was the treatment involved? Thanks for your reply x

Hi Melissa
I was 2b but the reason for the rush was to start the radiotherapy to stop the bleeding.

Let us know how you’re doing.

How old are you when you got the treatment? Did you have histerectomy? And also did you get vaccine before?

Hi Melissa

I hope everything goes okay with the biopsies, MRI etc. I’d tell you not to worry but it’s human nature to always think the worst, at least you’ll have some answers quickly and then will know what you’re dealing with. I hope you have a good support network around you, it’s a lot to try & get your head around.

Let us know how you get on, fingers crossed for you. x

Hi
I was 40 when I was diagnosed. There was no vaccine available when I was younger.

I did not have a hysterectomy. I did chemo, radiation, and brachytherapy.
I’ll be thinking of you ladies as you wait to hear more. I know how nerve wracking it can be to wait.

It’s amazing. There is no recurrence since 2010 and you did not have histerectomy. I mean doctors suggest vaccine up to 45 years old. Did you get vaccine after treatment? It’s suggested that it may reduce the reccurences.

Great question. My doctor didn’t recommend getting the shot. I haven’t tested positive for hpv for the past 13 years so I think that’s a positive sign

Hang in there!
Hugs
Linda

Yes it means it was not necessary for you. I think it could be related to hpv type. Do you know which type of hpv did you have? Hpv 16 and 18 are more aggresive than the others.

Thanks Lou. Thankfully the weekend is almost over and it’s nearly Tuesday. I have worked myself up so much over this last few days, I have no idea how I will react either way! My sister is being great bless her. I’d be lost without her. I will pop back to update you all when I find out. This forum is also amazing for the support from you ladies. It helps so much to read success stories and also know that I am not alone xx

Just wanted to let anyone know who is feeling worried/anxious about the rushed colposcopy and results - my biopsies and MRI scan came back cancer free! It was just a bad infection on my cervix and BV which they gave me pessaries for. I was convinced it would be cancer due to previously having abnormal smears, HPV and LLETZ several years ago. Feeling much better now and the bleeding during sex has stopped.
