Hi all, 

I had a phone call from my doctor to tell me that my smear test has shown abnormal cells, I have now also had the letter saying the same but have seen others had more information on their letters.

Is it the norm for the initial letter to state just 'abnormal cells' and the appointment letter for the colposcopy to give more information?

I'm a mess.

Hi 

My letter from my smear just said abnormal and I had been referred to colposcopy. Or something along those lines.

I work in my hospital so I asked the consultant there, she told me that I likely had precancerous cells, they would look at my cervix and if I was happy do what they call a “see and treat”, where they remove the abnormal cells. Apparently this is often all that is needed and is more common than I thought, unfortunately for me I needed further treatment but I was an unusual case. My sisters have both had this with no further issues.

My colposcopy letter didn’t really tell me much tbh, there was an information leaflet on colposcopy but it was just general information.

I think the fact that these first results letter just say abnormal is because a smear is only a screaming test , it’s there to pick up abnormal cells , not diagnose what sort of cells or treatment Yourll have.

 

my consultant told me that smears  often give not completely accurate results which is why your sent to a colposcopy clinic

I’ve had an odd path to get to my current diagnosis of high grade cgin and I had a Lletz on Tuesday this week.

 

ive had odd bleeding for 7/8 years visited gp about it on a number of occasions and basically fobbed off until I saw a new dr about a pill review ... I told her I didn’t need the pill anymore as sex wasn’t possible due to bleeding !

My smear was only 2 years ago , never had an abnormal one but yet here I am waiting for Lletz results !

I’ve had an odd path to get to my current diagnosis of high grade cgin and I had a Lletz on Tuesday this week.

 

ive had odd bleeding for 7/8 years visited gp about it on a number of occasions and basically fobbed off until I saw a new dr about a pill review ... I told her I didn’t need the pill anymore as sex wasn’t possible due to bleeding !

I am just finding it stressful that others seem to have been given lots more info on their initial letter, for example low grade/high grade etc... I simply have 'abnormal' and am absolutely going round in circles. Im so anxious and stressed, can't eat, can't concentrate.

Hi there, my result letter was very basic aswell. Just says I need further investigation at colposcopy and that an appointment will be sent through the post. When I phoned the Dr they didn't have any more information! Wish the letter gave a bit more detail with regards to the result :(
