raised markers

Hi all

I am new to this forum

i was diagnosed with cervical cancer in January 2012.

i have had radiotherapy and chemotherapy and finished treatment in July 2012.

in November 2013 I was told my cancer markers had gone up and was called in for an MRI scan which didn't show anything up.

I have now been contacted again to say the markers are up again and I need an urgent Pet Scan.

im so scared. I can't go through all this treatment again.

has anyone else been through this or know why these markers keep going up?

First of all welcome to Jo's.It's a great site and very friendly place to come.

I didn't want to read and run.I know the thought of further treatment is a scary place to be.

Sorry I can't help with markers.I had pain so they did investigation to see what was going on.

Nobody ever mentioned markers to me.

Hopefully somebody will be along soon to give you some advice.

Thanks for your reply. Hopefully someone knows about these markers which are defected through a blood test.

I think what you are referring to is the SCC antigen score, this is a number derived from the amount of squamous cell carcinoma antigens in your blood after treatment. I have this test regularly and understand that a score under 110 is fine, higher could be an indication that cancer has returned.

My scores have been 50 for the last 18 months, my most recent has gone up to 90 but my consultant says this is nothing to be concerned about so I shall wait and see.

Good luck with your scan, let me know how you get on
