Radical trachelectomy for stage 1b2 andemocarcinoma

Hi all. Just wanted to update a little.
Its been about a month and a half since I got diagnosed with cancer and a few things have happened since.

It got confirmed that I had stage 1b2 andemocarcinoma. Although the tumor was large enough to be classified as this, thankfully it was contained and my scans hadn’t shown any sign of it spread anywhere else or to my lymph nodes.

I got referred to a specialist in Birmingham who had scheduled for me to have a radical trachelectomy and a full pelvic lymph node removal which I had done on Thursday last week in the hopes of preserving my fertility. I was very lucky to be offered this as they don’t usually offer it to stages above 1b1 but due to them believing that it hadn’t spread and that I am only 27 they agreed to give it a go.

They said my op was ‘uneventful’ and I am now recovering at home whilst waiting for the biopsy results to hopefully confirm that they hopefully managed to remove all of the cancer.

In the middle of all of this madness I thankfully managed to get married and have a small 3 day honeymoon to iceland which was very much needed for my mental health.

I was wondering if anyone else has had this done and what they went through in terms of recovery?
I have a large 9/10 inch cut running from between my ribs to below my belly button which is currently being held together with staples and a catheter which is absolutely doing my head in.

I’d love to hear back from anyone else who has had this done

Hi Lilyts,

Sounds like you’re doing well.

I had almost the same as yourself, 1b1 and a trachelectomy done last month. Also in Birmingham by Miss Singh. Uneventful is exactly the word that I had used to describe my surgery which at the time I found rather amusing.

The catheter I found super frustrating too, but it’ll be gone before you know it, hopefully.

Looks like we had the same type of cut too. Mine is taking it’s time to heal but finally starting to get there (the bottom of it was refusing to close up fully).

Haven’t seen many other ladies talk about having the trachelectomy, doesn’t seem to be performed as often.

Miss singh did mine too. She’s such an amazing lady to give people going through this a shot at having children. But I agree there isn’t as much talk for the trachelectomy. Possibly because I think the standard practise is the full hysterectomy if you’ve already got children and I suppose it’s a less fiddley opp to take the lot rather than parts then putting you back together again lol and that there are less surgeons or hospitals that can offer it.

I had my catheter removed today and honestly I feel 10 times better already. I feel as though not having it in has given me some mobility back.

I’m due to have my clips out in another week but from how its healing so far I think ill have the same issue as you where the bottom takes longer. It feels the worst where my stomach hangs over a bit. But the scars don’t bother me as long as the cancer is gone

Hi i had a radical trachelectomy in January after receiving the news that I had stage 1b2 cervical cancer in November. My operation went really well took 10 hours and 6 nights in hospital recovering was hard and took a good 3 months to feel normal again.
I was lucky enough to have my lymph nodes removed by keyhole surgery so my scares are only small. My surgeon was amazing.
I have just had the all clear from my first scan and check up and now hoping to try for a baby.
