Hi all - has anyone has this note, “?invasion” (it’s written exactly like that) alongside confirmation of HPV and abnormal cells? I’m due to have LLETZ this Saturday but can’t shake this sinking feeling that the pros know something more, but just aren’t telling me. Rationally, what was actually said is that the cells/changes (?) are high grade and therefore should be investigated. I’m new to the forum and as you can expect have been all over the boards looking for similarities…and comfort. I am praying it’s not the dreaded c…
Hi Ana,
The most likely explanation is that they think it may be CIN3 - which is sometimes called ‘carcinoma in situ’ and where this is queried I have seen ?invasion before. So yes, they suspect high grade cells and CIN3 is more likely than other stages to lead to cancer proper. I presume this was from your smear test? In which case there is likely no more that can be learned from this test, so they won’t be withholding any information from you - they simply don’t know the accurate details and can only do this with colposcopy, where the cervix can be magnified up to 40 times, biopsies taken and the surface stained with a substance that looks for abnormalities. You’ll have to wait quite a few weeks for the results (going on most people’s experiences) but no reason to think you’ve actually got cancer at the moment. X
Hi Jacks, thank you for reply - this was from a recent colposcopy and samples taken from that same appointment. It confirmed HPV 16 and 31.
Prior to this, my last (non-colposcopy) screen in Sept. '21 reconfirmed high grade HPV and mild dyskaryosis. I should have been referred to colposcopy THEN but unfortunately, there was a typo in that letter and the reco was still to come back in a year’s time. ONLY when I started to suffer persistent bleeding during sex (ironically around the same time as last exam) did the alarm bells ring.
All agree LLETZ is the next step and it’s been scheduled for Saturday. I did ask the doctor point blank yesterday, is it cancer? And he said he couldn’t (wouldn’t?) say. I fear I have lost precious time because of the follow up letter c*ck up…
sorry, high “risk” and mild dyskaryosis is what i meant to write…
