Pubic Pains

Hi Ladies

I had my Rad Hyst on 8th October and then re-opened up (& extended) for a further op on 25th October to clear out a collection/abscess that was there.  That makes me now 6 weeks post 2nd op.  I have a vertical scar that runs from about 1.5 inches above my belly button to my pubic area.

I've been getting quite a few pains in my pubic area in the last couple of days and wondered if anyone else had had the same.  Another website said it was probably the nerves knitting together and a nurse friend said it sounded like the nerve endings were going a little wild trying to regenerate.

I have other 'twingey' pains going on elesewhere too, although they aren't too bad - can anyone say how long this goes on for?

Also, I've been getting a bit sore and itchy 'down there' and wondered if anyone had any advice.

I have my post op check up this Friday (13th) and can ask the consultant but I know from experience it really helps finding out what others have gone through.

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Love & hugs

Cheryl

Hi Cheryl,

I really hope that this reply finds you feeling a little better. I'm sorry you've had to go through all that, it truly sucks.

I have also had a radical hysterectomy (I have the same scar!) and know what you mean about those twingey aches and pains. I had my hysterectomy in 2009 and still ocassionally have small aches and pains I'm afraid to say. However they do start to decline in frequency and once you become more confident that it's not something mega scary they become easier to deal with. Half of the worry is the unknown element of it all, I guess it's natural to get fearful after what we've all been through!

I think mention it to the consultant explain everything you feel and see what they come back with. In my experience they don't like to take chances and will listen to you and take action whether that's to examine or reassure you.

I hope it all goes well tomorrow!

Hi Lucy

Many thanks for your response - it really helps to know others have gone through the same or something similar.  I asked the consultant about it on Friday and he confirmed that it was the nerve endings regenerating and knitting together.

I guess it must take quite a time for it to heal completely internally with all that has gone on.  Knowing you have still had the twingey aches and pains after some time gives me the heads up of what to expect.

Good to see you have been discharged now, it's what we all hope for in the future.

Hi Cheryl, glad you got some answers. I am 3 wks post op (radcal hysterectomy) this Wednesday & was having loads of funn pains like jolts, rang nurse & she told me the same. Hope you had good news at your visit, my first follow-up is tomorrow. Kinda nervous, so hope no internal, just don't want anyone at me again!!  All the best x

Hi Salma, hope your appt went well today.  I didn't have an internal on Friday as the consultant said I was still healing inside and he didn't want to disturb anything.  He plans to do it mid Jan, then a smear and examination in April and a MRI next Oct.

He said he was pleased with my progress and that I was walking well.  I asked about the chances of reoccurrence and he said it was less than 10% which isn't bad.

Let's hope we can move forward from this now and try and have a good Christmas.  I was so pleased to read your results were clear and no further treatment was needed.

Hi Cheryl, thanks for the replies! I didn't have to have internal as well, phewww!! Specialist happy with the way my wound is healing, felt all around the tummy-seemed pleased too! Only thing is that they will be keeping an eye on higher up in the vagina(what's left of it) as my first CT scan & MRI detected cancerous strands higher up- if it does come back seems that's the spot for me!! I have pap & possible scan (can't remember which type) in March!! Been ok, had bit of a wobbly yest with a friend! Could I ask what ind of activity you are able for after your surgery, like 3 weeks post op!! So glad your news is good too, have a lovely Christmas & New Year!! Hugs right back to you xxx

Hi salma

I'll keep everything crossed for you that those cancerous strands do not put in an appearance. I've been mostly OK then had a bit of a wobbly day today - at least those times are getting fewer now though.

I'm 8 wks post 2nd op now and do a brisk walk for about 30 mins a day.  I am reasonably active at home though still be very careful as the consultant said I was still healing internally.  I'm doing a bit of work on the laptop from home and plan to start a phased return on 8th Jan.

Don't forget though my recovery is a lot slower as I had 2 ops in less than 3 wks and the original wound was reopened and extended so has taken longer to heal.

I asked my consultant if there were any limitations now and he shook his head and said to go ahead but to listen to my body.  Did walk a bit further today and am very tired (only 4 hrs sleep last night) and have been having a few tummy twinges this afternoon.

Thank goodness we are on the road to recovery though and at least able to have a half decent Christmas!

Wishing you a wonderful Christmas and a happy & healthy 2014!
