Possibility to carry a pregnancy after brachytherapy

Hi everyone!

I was diagnosed with stage 3c cc and had 4 rounds of cisplatin, 25 external radiation and 4 internal. I’ve been told I will enter early menopause (I am only 23) but I was wondering if I would be able to carry a pregnancy with the eggs I was able to freeze?
I am not sure if the radiation would’ve damaged my womb also, sorry if it sounds silly.

Gosh - I’m so sorry to hear you’ve had to go through this at 23! In answer to your question, I’ve no idea, to be honest - please phone the Jo’s Trust helpline and ‘ask an expert’. Your health care team should also have talked to you about this - please ring up your nurse specialist and ask for a chat and a referral, if it’s appropriate. There may be other ladies on the forum who have been through something similar and they may be able to share their stories. I hope you’re all clear now. I’m 9 months out from treatment for 3C2 and I have my follow up appointment next week and keeping everything crossed. All the best to you. Xx

Hi jkarinna23,

I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis at this age. I went through a similar treatment regime as I was diagnosed with 2b adenocarcinoma. When I asked my consultant a similar question she responded that it will not be possible to carry a pregnancy. The egg preservation would be if I would like to go through surrogacy. I would advise to ask your consultant the question to make sure that you understand your options. I hope it helps. Xx
