New Year, New Hope

Hi,
I am 2 months post op (radical hysterectomy) for cervical cancer. My abdomen and waist still seem to be quite swollen. It is fairly ok in the mornings, and it has gone down quite a bit since surgery. However, I have noticed the more I do during the day the more it swells. This seems to only affect my middle. The rest of my body is ok, so I know I haven’t put weight on.
I went back to the gym 7 weeks after surgery and I do about an hour a day. My abdomen seems to swell more after activity and when I eat. It’s getting me down because I don’t feel comfortable in any clothes and I’m tired of wearing loose clothes.
Has anyone else experienced this and if so how long does it take to go down ? Thanks x

How are you feeling ?

Hi ah im so pleased for you  thats fab !

Me ? Not so good, my wounds are still not healing, ive a 3.5cm one then another 1cm still open and leaking, they have tried a cream to see if it helps
I think next week they will be telling the hostipal as its going on too long, was supposed to be going to Spain on Monday, obviously had to put it back till 25th April, i think im going to have to put it back again, uts only a holiday, tbh its the last thing i want to do :disappointed_relieved:
Im so pleased your doing well !!

Oh GillRobs, so sorry to hear about the wounds - have you been having antibiotics? My husband had a similar thing after a spinal operation and they gave him antibiotics and iodine dressings. What a bummer about your holiday, so sorry it’s having to be delayed but obviously you need to be well in order to enjoy it, and we hope that will be very soon! Sending you a big (gentle) hug. Xxx

Hi aw thanks, i was on iv antibiotics then i came home with another 5 day’s worth, its been swabbed for infection and its fine, i am a bad healer but still it should be showing signs of improvement by now!
They have been using the silver dressings on it too
Its all a nightmare!! Wish it would just hurry up :disappointed_relieved::disappointed_relieved: xx

Oh no! I’m so sorry to hear this. You are having such a rough time but it will get better. Keep going. These things are sent to try us. You will get there x

Hi, aw yes i know i really shouldn’t be complaining, lots are going through far worse :disappointed_relieved:

I know it will heal eventually :see_no_evil::see_no_evil::+1: lol

Hope you’re well? X

Ive developed lymphedema :weary::weary:

I got the shock of my life on Tuesday night, i thought it was just with not being on my feet, till i looked it up , as thought how odd 6 weeks after my surgery!
Rang the hostipal yesterday, the nurse specialist rang earlier saying that she’ll ask for a referral to a lymphedema specialist, im so scared when i look on-line it doesn’t look good  xx

Oh no, GillRobs, this is so sad  - your body really doesn’t like being interfered with. We have a lymphoedema ‘veteran’ on here, Jazza, who will be able to give some advice, but this is a low blow for you only 6 weeks after your op. I hope they can help you quickly.:cry::kissing_heart:

Jack’s, thankyou, you know i didnt even know it was a thing
When i rang the secretary yesterday she asked when surgery was, then when the nurse specialist rang this morning she said oh you only had surgery recently? So is that not the norm then? As i looked online ( i know naughty) and it says can happen months after ? This is completely alien to me :disappointed_relieved::disappointed_relieved:

It might be worth starting a new thread about this - a diagnosis of lymphoedema following radical hysterectomy - because it will alert people in the same position to the discussion. I do hope it’s temporary, and caused by fluid from the operation, and not because of your lymphadenectomy (I presume you’ve had this with your radical hysterectomy). My husband (the bad healer, LOL) gets swollen feet and ankles sometimes, but it’s transient thank goodness.

Thinking of you; you’ve been through so much with this op already. X

Hiya, my wounds are healing now, only a very small hole left, 8.weeks today since my op :see_no_evil:
Ive got a scan on 22nd on my liver and stomach, my swelling in my leg has gone right down thank god …

Apart from that im feeling ok just very tired, i need help as PIP text me with an appointment for a face to face assessment, 33 miles away :woman_shrugging: never had that before, ill have to get my sister to ring them tomorrow as i can’t speak to them i just break down …
Thankyou for asking i really appreciate it, i hope you are doing well? Xx

So glad you are doing better. I hope you get the PIP payments sorted. I’m ok physically, back at to work etc, but it’s the physiological side that is now dominant. I have had quite severe panic attacks and hoping these will pass in time. X

Hi…im sorry to hear about your panic attacks, i suffer from them too, absolutely debilitating they are!! Are they because of your cancer?
I ask that as ive been having nightmares that im being told im riddled with cancer and there is nothing they can do and then im standing on the edge of a cliff then i wake up sweating, even screaming one night i was told , i can’t stop thinking about the day i was told i had it, so its probably related, ive not been out the house apart from my scan last Friday ( liver and stomach) for 9 weeks now , just feel so panicky…
If you ever need to talk please get in touch  its awful and im praying they get better for you   xx
