Mom diagnosed

Hello!

We just recently found out that my mother was diagnosed with cervical cancer. Today was he first appointment with the oncologist and was able to get a radical hysterectomy scheduled on June 16th. The physician examined her and said he was able to see an polyp and that the cancer is fast spreading. I’m confused bc i thought cervical cancer was slow growing. Is it bc they don’t want it to spread to other places in the uterus? And we don’t know what stage. She has to schedule CT scan, PET scan, and EKG.

Hi Sailgirl and welcome

I’m sorry to hear your Mum has been diagnosed with cervical cancer.

I’m not an expert but I know there are different types of cervical cancer, most of which are slow growing but a few are fast growing. I found the following link which explains clearly about different types of cervical cancer:

I hope your Mum can get her scans soon. I’m afraid it’s a bit of a waiting game in the beginning; waiting for tests and then waiting for the results. I think it can be the the most challenging stage, in emotional terms, as there are so many unknowns. It’s better when you know more about what you are dealing with.
