Lymph node sampling advice

Hi everyone,

Haven’t been on here for a while and sorry to have to come back to ask people for advice.
After getting my all clear in March 2011 and having a hysterectomy cancelled as a result, the only thing I have had done is monitoring. Everything was going along nicely until about three months ago when a different consulatant to my usual one gave my a colp.
To cut a long story short, I have had clear smears, colps and MRIs since. But now I have been given the choice of three forms of treatment.

  1. Monitoring
  2. Lymph node sampling (This was never offered to me before despite having LVSI)
  3. Lymph node sampling and simple hysterectomy

Now, making this decission about my own body without any medical training is tough. I can deal with the hysterectomy, but it’s the side effects of lymph node removal and or the hysterectomy that I am concerned about.
So, my question is, what experience do you guys have of lymph node sampling, what problems did you experience and how have they been manged?
Thanks,

Hugs to all,

Keza

Hi i had between 15-20 lymph nodes removed through key hole surgery in sept last year and I have had no problems since (touch wood!!!) the surgery it’s self had 1 day before and three days after in hospital and 6 weeks off work. Any questions happy to help if I can PM me as I find messages easy to miss on the forum now x

Hi Keza,

I know this was a long time ago but i was hoping you could help me.

I have stage 1A2 cervical cancer and i am having a Trachelectomy. They have said they would like to take my lymph nodes out even though they have shown clear on all my tests.

My surgeon said he doesnt do sampling. Can you tell me where you were offered this as an option?

Many Thanks

Martine

Hi ladies,

I'm also interested in this post. I was told I would be having a trachelectomy by local hosppital. I was referred onto the spcialists and they recommended a cone maybe enough. Also a CT scan was done and then they said lymph nodes would need to be removed by keyhole surgery. Ive seen some stories on here about post lymph node removal...some good..some not so good! Any advice would be welcome x
