I'm going to start by saying that I weight 507lbs. I recently had a smear with an asc-h result. I had not had a pap smear in about 15 years because of fear of my weight. I am having a LEEP done on the 17th. I am terrified out of my mind it will turn up cancer. I'm scared because of my weight they would not be able to do a hysterectomy on me and my cancer will grow and ill die. I am losing weight. Lost 100lbs so far. Has anyone been through this at my weight or knows anyone who has? I have not been able to find anything online. My Dr office refuse to answer questions about a hysterectomy because we don't have even the LEEP done. If anyone could help thank you.
It's best to take things a step at a time, cross your bridges when you come to them etc. I'm sorry you are feeling so anxious; I've certainly had a lot of anxiety since my cc diagnosis back in January 2017. My way of dealing with it has been to keep busy so as to keep my mind in the here and now - a spot of cleaning has helped get me through times when I felt at a loss. I don't think your Dr is being unreasonable in not discussing a hysterectomy as it's not relevant in your current situation. I would suggest focussing on is all the things you can do now to get as fit and healthy as possible to give yourself the best chance of getting through this with a good outcome; it's awesome that you've lost 100lbs - wow! Statistically, the most likely outcome is that your LEEP will clear any abnormal cervical cells with no further problems.
They won't discuss any form of treatment yet in case it's not required, take it one step at at time.
I do understand your fear though as I am pretty overweight and thought the same. When coming up with my treatment plan my surgeon was very nervous about doing a radical hysterectomy due to my weight and opted for just a full hysterectomy instead. During the operation he was pleasantly surprised that I didn't actually carry a lot of weight around my belly, it's all on my bum and legs so managed to actually do the radical hysterectomy after all and he also removed 22 lymph nodes with no issues. None of this was discussed though until I had my diagnosis, staging etc. Think what I am trying to say is that you need to take one step at a time, your results may all be fine, but if you do need treatment they will work out the best treatment plan for you, they won't just not treat you cause of your weight, there are always options and everyone's journey is is different for lots of different reasons. Well done and good luck with your weight loss. Keep up the good work as being overweight and cancer is strongly linked. I know it's not easy losing weight. Let's hope your return smear in a few months time will give you positive news as well.
