I havent been on in a few weeks due to internet problems, have a scan tomorrow morning I finished treatment end of August, I had a scan in September and another in November which showed less activitity than the first one but the day my consultant rang with my results I was so nervous on the phone I didnt ask any questions at all, i was suppose to see him the following week but it was then cancelled as the scan looked good I contacted the nurse in the hospital the following day she was to call me back but never did. I see so many brilliant posts on here the last few weeks of people getting the all clear I am in Ireland so not sure if it makes a difference but I have been told that the the all clear is never given until two years after treatment. I am now in limbo as I dont know if I still have cancer or not and havent a clue what questions I should be asking my oncologist could someone give me some suggestions I would really appreciate it or should i just ask him is the tumour still there? I am also very sick with menopausal symptoms and havent had a decent nights sleep since early december cant take any hormonal treatment really feeling crap at the moment and due to go back to work soon enough … thanks for reading this post
here in Canada we get a NED (no evidence of disease) not really an "all clear" but it pretty much is the same thing. These are from scans and physical examination every 3/4 months At the 2 year mark we go to 6 mths. It is only at the 5 year mark we are given the words cured. So for 5 years the all clear just technically means they do not see any sign of the cancer.
Sorry to hear about your lack of sleep due to menopause symptoms. I was also having the same issues and was told by my oncology team that HRT would be a bad idea and they would prefer I stay far away from that. However, there are other pills that are for hot flashes on the market. I take gabapentin and it has helped tremendously. 2 pills a day and no hot flashes but if I miss a pill then I do still get the odd one. It took a bit of playing with the amount but I've seem to have got it settled. Do seek a dr advice on some pills to help the hot flashes. They are not HRT.
Do ring again and ask the nurse about your report. If there was anything showing that was concerning I do think you would know!! But for some reassurance don't be afraid to ask them.
I was tolled it would be 5 years before I would get the all clear no cancer at all I was tolled I responded well to treatment and all looking good I'm nearly 1 year from finishing treatment in March and 9 months from getting the responded well I've took it I'm clear of cancer for the now hope this helps xx
Hi I'm 18mths from end of treatment. Had lots of ups and downs in first 9 months but last April was told all looked "clear". I queried this with nurse as I wanted plain English clarity! I asked did this mean I was in remission (not a word that seems to be used much these days).
she said yes - and confirmed the conversation in the met meeting had all been very positive and it was great news.
my next scan was also clear (phew!) and they used phrase still responded to treatment.
im waiting on my next scan results so let's see what's said!
im sure if there was anything to worry about they'd be more than clear!
Im also in Ireland and once I finish my brachy it'll be a 3 month wait before my Pet scan. Then it'll be every 3 months till the two year mark and then onto 6 months. With every cancer im nearly sure they never mention cure until 5 years.
i hope the symptoms of menapouse get better for i know it's not meant to be easy but I'm sure your doing great. it has yet to kick in for me but it was the last thing I though I'd be going through at 24 i do be making jokes to my father saying its going to be awful having two menapausaul women in the house together!
