Good News :)

Hi everyone,

Spoke to the specialist nurse again yesterday and she confirmed I am now cancer free after the cone biopsy! :)

Just wanted to share my good news and also wanted to ask anyone has had a similar procedure if they know what the chances are of the cancer coming back?

I know this sounds pretty morbid after having such good news, but I'm just concerned as the recommended treatment for early stage CC is a radical hysterectomy and my consultant wouldn't let me have one because I am 30 years old and haven't had children yet. I assume the reason a hysterectomy is recommended is because there is a good chance the cancer will come back?

So now although I feel happy with the results of the cone biopsy, I feel like I will most likely get the cancer back and my consultant's only bought me some time to have children, before it comes back again!

And it doesn't help that CIN is still present, and they don't want to do anything further until I have a colposcopy in 3 months time, because they want to wait and see if the CIN goes away on its own or if it gets worse!

Lisa!
I am so pleased for you  this is fantastic news!!!
Try not to worry… I would of thought that your consultant would have done a hysterectomy if he felt it was necessary!
You’re going to be screened more regularly so they’re going to keep an eye on your CIN!
Try not to worry - we’re proof the system works!!

Thanks for your support Em,

It feels kinda weird because I'm actually looking forward to my next colposcopy now! :)

Hey Lisa, that's good news.

Em is right. It's always likely to be in the back of your mind, especially as your checkups come round, but your treatment team will have chosen the best option for you and will not have put you at risk.

Enjoy your summer!

Thank you Rosehip, I'm starting to feel much better now x x x

Hi Lisa,

My story is similar to yours, I had a cone for early stage cc at 31. Do you know what size your tumour was? I also had lymph nodes removed to check for spread, thank god there was none.

My Tumor was 1a2 4mm x 7mm. After my op my consultant told me there was less than 3% chance of recurrence for me. I nearly fell off my chair! I expected him to say that as I’d not had a full hysterechtomy there is a chance it’d come back - but this was not his opinion! As you have CIN still present, you may need a lletz to remove more cells, but they probably wanted to let your body settle down first and see what it cold fix naturally itself. I think the positive is that you’re being monitored so if things don’t settle properly they can look at additional treatment for you.

It easy to say but you could spend the rest of your life worrying (we all do it!) but, what a waste of a life that would be!

Next time you see you doc, take a lit of questions, it may help settle your mind.

Well done on the all clear - stay happy & healthy!

Thanks for your kind words Lisa, I  was diagnosed as stage 1A1.

After my colposcopy and the loop biopsy I was never given an MRI, I kept asking about it and kept being told I didn't need one at the moment. They then performed the cone biopsy and told me over the phone the cancer was gone and my next appointment would be for a colposcopy in 3 months time.

So I suppose I'm a bit worried it may have spread as I havent had anything else but my cervix checked, I didn't have my lymph nodes removed and everyone on this site seems to have had an MRI at some point and I can't understand why they haven't given me one.

I'm trying to be positive now the cancer has gone, but I suppose theres always doubt in the back of your mind after going through an experience like this.

I think when I go to my colposcopy appointment I'll ask my consultant to explain why I didn't need an MRI or my lymph nodes removed. Hopefully that will put my mind at rest :)
