Found out got early stage cancer

I had my smear like normal then got results back that hpv positive and abnormal cells with severe changes. Had to go to hospital on 6th December had lletz treatment then got told had to wait 4 weeks for results through post. Then Saturday 15th December got letter through for appointment with consultant on 27th December. I went out of my mind all weekend then rang specialist nurse this morning and she told me that ive got early stage cancer and it got to go meeting with consultants to discuss my case on Thursday. Then should know a bit more on thursday. It strangely felt like a weight off my shoulders knowing something rather than knowing nothing. Really worried going to effect my Christmas :( any ladies been through this just got so many questions.

Hi keep smiling.  After a third lletz 4 weeks ago I found out I had early stage cancer. They think from the microscope it’s stage 1. I had an mri last Thursday and hoping to go in Friday this week for the meeting. Looking like a hysterectomy which is good news unless they tell me anything further.  I feel like I have a black cloud over my head and Christmas will be hard this year knowing or not knowing what’s ahead.   Looking for answers too.   Big hugs.   Xxx

I'm in the same situation, though I was diagnosed in October so have had some time to get my head round the news.  Hope you manage to enjoy Christmas,  it's very good news that it's been found.

I'm having a hysterectomy on the 8th of January, but am determined to have a good family Christmas first.

Hope your meeting goes well x

Hi bythecanal sorry to hear your news but glad you haven’t got to wait long.  Did they tell you what stage your were before the mri? Are you having your overies removed as part of the hysterectomy. I suppose this is the question I have at nearly 43 and completed my family I would rather take them out to prevent further risk.  I wish you very well in January and Christmas too.   Xxx

Hi Twhite

Thanks for the best wishes- it's been a hard few months,  but I feel more at peace with the idea of the surgery now. I'm 36, and am hoping to keep my ovaries to prevent surgical menopause.

I've never had an MRI at all,  which has surprised me, but I'm stage 1 and the gynaecologist is confident it's contained within the cervix.  I've had a pelvic ultrasound and my ovaries and uterus seemed perfectly healthy.

I was diagnosed by biopsy and then two separate LLETZ treatments- one in Sept that contained a tumour in the removed tissue, and one in Nov which revealed another tumour, separate to the first one. Multi-focal. We're hoping hysterectomy is the extent of the treatment,  my fingers are crossed that I can avoid radiotherapy etc, but that will depend on how it all looks when it's removed.

Got my pre-op tomorrow, and a meeting with the consultant,  so hoping to get more info then.

X

Keep smiling I hope your meeting goes well on Thursday- I'm glad for your sake that you'll have a chance to discuss it before Christmas.

So I go in on Friday the waiting is awful now over a week since I found out and had the MRI.  Just hoping it is stage 1 and a hystorectomy will solve it.   The sooer the better now...   I will let you know how i get on and keep popping on here for your updates in January  Smile

Hi everyone I've just joined this. Feeling really worried after a smear revealed abnormalities. Had 2 biopsys taken yesterday and now got to wait till mid January to find out the results. Feel like I'm going out of my head with worry.

Oh Sammy. Hope your ok. Why did they do two?  Did they show you anything on the screen?   The waiting is rubbish.  I hope you will be fine. But yes it’s hard.  Xxx

Sorry to hear this I'm going thru exactly the same.31 with 3 children 12,10 and 7. Normal smear in june, bleeding after sex, discharge which is smelly (for over 1 yr) referred to gaenacologist after big bleed during sex. Told me ectropian, referred for colposcopy,do a biopsys which came bk cancer. Lletz treatment week after, told stage 1b1 with radical hysterectomy needed  . Now just had mri and ct scan today but absolutely petrified that scan shows something more as been having pain/aches all in left side even after lletz. Aches down left thigh to knew front and back and left pelvic aches on and off and also constipated feeling for last 3 weeks, pressure in bum. Appointment for scan results next Thursday 27th dec .

I'm the same lletz came bk cancer stage 1b1.just had c.t . and mri got next appointment for scan results 27th dec.so scared and worried if something else shows on scans. Getting left sided pelvis/thigh and hip pain/ache on and off

Just back from results for MRI. They have diagnosed me between 1a2 and 1b1. They can’t be exactly sure but will be having a radical hysterectomy in January.  There is a question on removing overies I’m nearky 43 and my family is complete. But obviously surgical menopause is a factor.  Any advise anyone?     I will take guidance from the surgeon.   Hope everyone is ok here and wishing you all well over Christmas.  Xxx

Hi Twhite,

Glad you have the results,  and I'm glad that the treatment plan is surgical for you. Though I know all too well it doesn't seem like good news.

I'm having a total hysterectomy with removal of cervix,  uterus and fallopian tubes. I'm keeping my ovaries as my gynaecologist has consistently maintained this is desirable for someone of my age (I'm 36). From reading online it seems that ovaries are useful in releasing oestrogen to help about osteoporosis, so you might want to consider that alongside thinking about menopause. My understanding was also that radical hysterectomy always involved removal of ovaries? Although the terminology of hysterectomy can be fairly confusing!

How are you feeling about your surgery being so soon? My consultant first discussed the possibility in Oct, with confirmation at end of November,  and by then the first available date with my own gynaecologist was beginning of January. It's been a long wait!

I hope you can manage to enjoy Christmas x

You must be beside yourself waiting for that meeting on the 27th- I hope you can manage to enjoy Christmas with your family first. I know it's not easy. Waiting for results is the worst- when I've had results, even bad ones,  I've always felt better instantly because being informed is better than that constant feeling of uncertainty. You will get there.

I had my pre-op assessment , and am all sorted for surgery in terms of meds, bloods etc. Need to get my iron levels up,  so on super strength iron tablets in preparation. Also attended a physio class for hysterectomy patients which was useful, apart from knocking me for six emotionally- all the other ladies were at least twenty years older than me and the class was in a room at the hospital where they hold ante-natal classes, with all the paraphernalia from those scattered about. A bit distressing really. Glad it's done now,  just need to get started!

I've had scan results which are clear. There's a lesion showing on my spleen but there not worried about that and will do another scan on it in a few months as they think its benign cyst or a something. my date for radical hysterectomy is went Jan.leaving ovaries now as consultant would rather leave them and wait to see of i carry the brca2 gene than take them as a precaution. but removing, cervix, womb, tubes, lymph nodes and 2cm vaginal wall. Hopefully it shows clear margins after op then no futher treatment after.

I had my rad hysterectomy procedure set for 12/27 went in and checked my lymph nodes first and they were involved so they stopped the hysterectomy and now I have to do radiation and chemo followed by internal radiation. I wish things would have gone as planned :(

Oh Ames, I'm so sorry! Had you had an MRI scan before the surgery? Did they not expect your lymph nodes to be involved?

My surgery is next Tuesday and I'm scared stiff to be honest.

I hope your chemo and radiotherapy goes as gently as it can.
