I recently had a keyhole radical hysterectomy (just over a week ago) I’m still awaiting the histology results. Iv got a Catheter in n it’s a nightmare. I have awful pains in my tummy n very bloated which is prob the gas they put in you, I get very cold n then really hot n I feel unwell with this n this is irregular most at bedtime but varies. I have my ovaries intact but just need some reassurance
No matter which way a radical hysterectomy is done it remains a massively invasive operation and you are likely to feel like crap for a while yet. If your ovaries are intact then you shouldn't be thrown into menopause so I'm wondering why you are having this cold-then-hot thing going on. Perhaps it's worth a call to the hospital to check whether or not you have an infection and are running a fever?
Sorry you are having a bit of a set back. I would agree with Tivoli that it's worth checking with your GP as you may have a urinary infection. I did when I had the catheter in, and I believe it's very common. So don't leave it and feel uncomfortable. Peppermint tea, sweets etcc is good for the gas problem, again very common. You will start to feel a bit more normal once the catheter is removed so hopefully not long to wait. X
I'm sorry you are feeling so crappy! Try to just take it slow and one day at a time. I hope you will be able to get that catheter out asap as I'm sure it will be a game changer.
Hi Becky, I just wanted to reply to let you know I feel your pain and you're not alone! I had exactly the same procedure 16 days ago. I honestly felt so so much better once the catheter was removed, it's amazing what a difference it made both physically and psychologically. The gas pains improved for me after 8 or 9 days so hopefully you won't have to tolerate those for too much longer. And I also felt very hot and cold at various intervals but those symptoms are all gone now too (my ovaries were also preserved). The worst thing for me at the moment is a numb and painful patch on my thigh... I'm told this is perfectly normal so don't worry if you develop this too. Hope you get the catheter removed very soon and start to feel a bit better x
Thank you all for your lovely replies. So appreciated :) I have no temperature and I have spoken to my gp and she also says its wind from the op, and all part of my body in shock. I did have a minor amount of tummy bloating n wind pain but it's the worse to that Iv ever had :( my op was 10 days ago. Oh I'm having my catheter removed Friday morning so cross fingers n I'll have my histology results tomorrow (the specialist nurse told me) I wonder if she knows them?
Hi Ladies, Can I ask how long they leave the catheter in for after the op? I'm due to have my operation in 2 weeks and have been told that I'll be in hospital for 1-3 days.. do they send you home with the catheter in?
Sorry for hijacking your thread, I'm just getting panicky about it now! :(
No worries :) well I was in for 3 days too and they take your catheter out in the morning on the 3rd day n to see if you are weeing enough n have the feeling to go. If you are ok then you wound be discharged without one but if not like me I went home with one. They give you night bags, leg bags n the flip flo which is the best one. Iv had mine in since Wednesday n I'm having it removed tomorrow so cross fingers :) don't worry it really isn't to bad. Just takes time to get used to it :)
