Colposcopy tomorrow - advice

Hi! Looking for a little advice or reassurance.
I’m 29 and had my second smear a month or so ago, once again it was abnormal and I still have HPV. My first smear at 26 also showed HPV and abnormal cells but they said everything was fine at the colposcopy and that was it.
Anyway. Tomorrow is my colposcopy and I’m really nervous this time with me still having HPV. Does having HPV longer and it not going away increase chances of it developing into cancer?

Hi Chloauxo

Welcome to the forum.

Try not to worry about tomorrow. That chances of cancer having developed in 3 years is very unlikely. They will most likely take biopsies tomorrow (this doesn’t hurt, is a little uncomfortable) and then invite you back for loop treatment if the results come back as CIN 2 or 3.

It may be that you have had HPV continuously, or it may be that it cleared and has returned. Its impossible to know, but honestly, its very common and not anything to be concerned about just yet.

If you have any questions there are some amazing women on here that will give advice, and an ask the experts line too.

Good luck tomorrow. Sending hugs xx
