A few anxious questions...

Hi everyone,

I have a Colposcopy coming up this week, for CIN II Moderate changes.  I am quite anxious and wondered if anyone could help with a few questions?

  •  I haven't been told what 'number' my HPV is/if it is high risk - is this important to ask the dr or nurse?
  • Does CIN II/III only occur if HPV is present?
  • If in the unlikely event cancer cells are present, will this show at the Colposcopy itself or would a biopsy usually be carred out first?
  • Is there a big significance between CIN I and CIN II?

Thanks for your help! xx

So far:

I have had the following results since 2006 (PAP and 2 colposcopys)

1. Borderline

2. Mild Dskaryosis/HPV

3. Mild Dskaryosis

4. Normal

5. Moderate Dskarosis

Hi. I'll try and answer your questions.....

I am a CC survivor and don't know what type of HPV i have. I dont think it's really going to help one way or the other but no harm in asking!

99.7% of abnormal cells/cancer are caused by HPV

If the cancer is big enough to be visible it will be seen at colposcopy......but the VAST majority are found by taking a biopsy.

It's thought that CIN1 can clear itself, as it progresses to CIN2 it is far less likely to go away by itself.

Hope that helps!

Thank you so much for your reply 365days.

So glad you have come through CC as a survivor, and wish you ongoing good health!

You have really helped! I guess I just had these questions spinning around my mind and couldn't relax until I knew the answers.
